FAQ & Pricing

Quick answers, no surprises.

The money stuff first, because nobody likes surprises. Then everything else people ask about Kaldrik.

How much does it cost?

It's free.

Kaldrik is free to use right now, and if you create an account today, our intention is that you'll keep your free access. We're building this for the people we love most: bands, musicians, and studio owners. Early supporters are exactly who we want to take care of.

Full transparency: like any service, our Terms and pricing can change in the future, and we reserve the right to do so. If that day ever comes, it would only be because we had to (think real-world operating costs: servers, storage, the unglamorous stuff that keeps the lights on), never to nickel-and-dime you. And we promise to be reasonable, fair, and upfront about it. No dark patterns, no "gotcha" charges. That's not who we are.

We can't legally promise "free forever, no matter what" (nobody honest can), but we can promise this: we'll always treat you the way we'd want to be treated.

The basics

What is Kaldrik?

A pre-production planner for multitrack recording sessions. Map out song structure, inputs, tracking order, tempo, lyrics, readiness, and credits (plus the session schedule, budget, and crew) so you walk into the studio ready to hit record. New here? Read the full guide →

How do I know if I'm actually ready to record?

That's what the Overview is for: your readiness command center. It shows the single next step, the easy wins that clear several songs at once, the hidden risks that bite on session day (I/O that won't fit your interface, a schedule that's too short, a deadline with songs not ready), and a blockers matrix of every song against every gate, plus how much prep time is left to studio-ready. Focus mode walks you through the fixes one at a time, and Studio view shows every project you're running on one board so you can tell which session needs you, and when.

What's the difference between Artist and Studio mode?

A toggle at the top of the sidebar switches your workspace mode. Studio mode shows everything, including the Studio business tools, schedule, budget, crew, quotes, payments, invoices, bookings, and the all-projects board, for studio owners and engineers running paid sessions. Artist mode hides those business tools for a simpler, song-first workspace aimed at bands and solo artists planning their own recordings. You can switch anytime; it only changes what's shown, never your data.

Do I need an account?

To save and sync your work, yes. A free account keeps your projects in the cloud and available across devices. You can sign up with email and password or with Google, and once you have an account you can also sign in with a magic link (a passwordless link emailed to you, no password to remember).

Does it work on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Kaldrik is responsive and works on modern mobile and desktop browsers. A bigger screen is comfier for the arrangement grid, but you can review and tweak from anywhere. On session day, Session Mode gives you a big-text, full-screen view built for a tablet in the control room, and you can install Kaldrik to your home screen like an app.

Does Kaldrik work offline?

Kaldrik keeps a cached copy of your current project in your browser, so a brief connection drop won't lose the work in front of you. It isn't a full offline app, though: the hosted version needs a connection to load and to sync and save to your account. You can install it like an app (it's a PWA, use your browser's "Install" or "Add to Home Screen") for its own window and icon, but it still needs a connection to sync.

Which browsers does Kaldrik support?

Kaldrik runs in the current versions of the major browsers, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on both desktop and mobile. It's a modern web app, so a recent, up-to-date browser gives the best experience; very old browsers may not work. No plugins or downloads are required.

Can I use Kaldrik on the day of the session?

Yes. That's what Session Mode is for: a full-screen, big-text view built for a tablet propped up in the control room. It puts the day's plan front and center, with a built-in click/metronome, a tap-to-advance tracking checklist so you can mark takes as you go, and a session timer to keep the day honest.

Can I see my whole studio's bookings in one calendar?

Yes. Bookings (in the sidebar) is a studio-wide calendar that spans every project. Set up your rooms (each gets a color), then add a session, a hold, or a maintenance block in month, week, or day view, and Kaldrik flags double-bookings when two entries overlap in the same room. There's also a floor-plan view for sketching a room's layout, with a time slider to see which rooms are busy when. It's built for studio owners juggling more than one record at a time.

Can Kaldrik remind me about an upcoming session?

Yes. Reminders (in the sidebar) gathers a session countdown and readiness reminders, calendar invites (.ics) with alarms for the session and for each crew member, optional browser notifications, and a copy-and-send reminder pack you can paste into your own email or group chat. Kaldrik never sends email or SMS for you, so nothing goes out unless you send it yourself; the reminders stay on your side.

Can I save a setup as a template for my next session?

Yes. Save a whole project as a project template (crew, schedule shape, input list, the works) and start your next record from it, or save a song template to reuse a structure or input setup song after song. If you record the same way most of the time, you set it up once and stop re-typing it.

Is Kaldrik accessible?

I aim for WCAG 2.1 AA: keyboard navigation, screen-reader labels, visible focus, and AA color contrast throughout. It's an ongoing effort, not a finished checkbox, and I treat accessibility reports like bugs. The full statement (and how to reach me about an issue) is on the accessibility page.

It says "beta." Is it finished?

Not yet! Kaldrik is in active development, so things may change and the occasional rough edge can sneak in. That's also the fun part: your feedback shapes what comes next. You can see exactly what's shipped lately on the changelog.

Who's behind Kaldrik?

Kaldrik is built by one person, with a deep love for music and studio work, developed independently. There is no big company or support team behind it. Building solo is part of how Kaldrik stays free, and it comes with a few honest trade-offs worth setting expectations on:

  • I don't keep backups of your work. Please keep your own exported copies (it's quick; see "Do you back up my data?").
  • Support and replies are best-effort, and might take a little while, but I do read everything.
  • There may be the occasional rough edge or bit of downtime while I improve things.

I pour real care into this because I'm making it for people like you. So please be patient and kind. Your feedback genuinely shapes where Kaldrik goes next.

Cost, crew & invoicing

Can Kaldrik tell me what a session will cost, and make an invoice?

Yes. In Schedule, Budget & Crew, set your studio rate (per hour, per day, or a flat fee; the billable time fills in from your schedule and you can override it), give each crew member a pay rate, and add meals / per-diem. Studio time, crew, meals, and any other budget lines add up into one true session cost, the same number you see in the sidebar. You can also add taxes (a percent of the buckets you choose) and pick your country & currency, so amounts format correctly (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, MXN, JPY, AUD…) and a sensible default tax model is offered for that country. From the Budget tab, hit Generate invoice to turn the whole breakdown into a printable bill (with your own invoice number, bill-to, and terms) you can Print or Save as PDF. You can create multiple invoices per project (deposit, progress, final), and each one gets its own share link with a QR code the client can open without an account, plus a PNG export. After the session, log what things actually cost: Kaldrik tracks budget vs. actual and sums it up in a printable session report.

Can I send a client a quote and track payments?

Yes. The Quote tab (in Schedule, Budget & Crew) turns your budget into a clean, client-facing estimate. Add an optional deposit, lock and mark it sent, then mark it accepted or declined as the client responds; an accepted quote becomes the billable basis for the invoice, so there's no double entry. Print it, save it as a PDF, or share it on the project's link. The Payments tab logs deposits and partial payments as they arrive and tracks the balance due, with an overdue flag from a due date.

Two things worth being clear about: Kaldrik does not process payments and never asks for or stores card or bank account numbers. The Quote and Payments tabs are for your own records and paperwork; you still collect the money however you normally do.

Can I keep an inventory of my gear?

Yes. Gear (in the sidebar) is a reusable inventory of your equipment: mics, DIs, preamps, amps, and more, each with a category, brand and model, quantity, optional serial number, and a status such as available or in repair. Search and filter it, import or export it as JSON, and when you build a song's input list you can pull a piece of gear straight from the library so you only enter it once.

Can I save studios, venues, bands, and contacts to reuse?

Yes. Contacts is a reusable address book of crew & collaborators (each with an optional pay rate and a role you can pick from common studio/production roles), and Studios, Venues & Bands is a separate library of the places and acts you work with (with country-aware addresses and default rates). Both are saved to your account and reusable across every project. For example, pick a saved studio in the Budget tab to fill its rate, or pull a contact straight onto your crew list. Open them from the project sidebar.

Can I get my plan into my DAW?

Yes. Open the Tempo map on a song and choose Export for DAW (.mid). You'll get a MIDI file with the tempo grid (including per-section tempo changes), the time signature, and a marker at each section. Import it into Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper, Ableton, Cubase, or Studio One to set up the session before you hit record. Reaper users can also export the Input List as a track template (named, record-armed tracks mapped to your patch channels) and the sections as a region CSV. And any DAW: grab a track sheet (.csv) (channel, track name, mic/DI, 48V, stand, pan, notes) or a stem-name list (suggested delivery file names) from the Input List. The fastest path is the DAW pack (.zip) on the Tempo map, which bundles the tempo MIDI, Reaper track template, region CSV, track sheet, stem names, and a README with import steps. (You can also export song data to .xlsx or print a clean session sheet.)

Can Kaldrik generate a songwriter split sheet?

Yes. Kaldrik can generate a printable one-page split agreement from your song's credits: each contributor, their ownership share, and signature lines for everyone to sign. Settling splits while the session is fresh saves a world of awkwardness later, so print it, sign it, and keep a copy with the project.

Sharing & collaboration

Can I share a plan with my band or engineer?

Absolutely. Hit Share to create a read-only link anyone can open. No account needed. You choose which songs and sections appear, and viewers can leave comments on the plan; you're notified in-app (the 🔔 bell) and can delete any of them. If you add a studio address, the shared page shows a map to it. You can also set the link to expire or require a passcode, and add your studio/band logo and accent color so the page and PDF look like yours, along with release artwork (album cover, band/studio logos, release type) on the shared page and PDF. Each project has its own link, and you can revoke it anytime.

Can my bandmates edit the plan with me?

Yes. Open a project's Collaborators (from the projects switcher) and invite someone by email as an editor (can edit) or viewer (read-only). They sign in with that email, accept the invitation (from the switcher or the 🔔 bell), and the project appears in their own account. You can change roles or remove people anytime. This is different from a public share link: collaborators have Kaldrik accounts and (if editors) can make changes.

Can my band confirm they're ready without a group chat?

Yes. Right on the read-only share page, band members can check in: confirm their availability and mark which songs' parts they've learned. No account needed. You see at a glance who's ready and what still needs woodshedding, instead of chasing replies. Like comments, check-ins are visible to anyone with the link, and you can revoke the link anytime.

Can clients review mixes and approve them?

Yes. In Audio review you upload a mix or master (up to 100 MB; MP3 or 16/24-bit WAV play most reliably) and stack new versions as the track evolves. Each upload gets a waveform player with a volume control, and clicking the waveform leaves a time-stamped comment pinned to that exact moment. When you share the project, the client can listen, comment, and approve or request changes right on the page, and you're notified in the 🔔 bell.

Your audio stays private: files are never given a public address and are served only through short-lived links to the people you share with. Please upload only audio you own or have the rights to share.

What can I print and hand to my engineer or crew?

A lot, and that's the point. The engineer handoff pack bundles the input lists, tempo maps, stem names, and stage plots an engineer wants before downbeat, and you can print per-crew call sheets so each person gets their own times and details. There's also a clean printable session sheet for the room, and afterwards a post-session report comparing what you estimated against what it actually cost.

Can I keep more than one project?

Yep. Keep as many projects as you like and switch between them from the projects switcher at the top of the sidebar. Each one keeps its own songs, session plan, theme, and share link. Running several at once? Studio view (in the switcher) puts every project on one board (what needs attention, what's in progress, what's studio-ready) with each one's readiness and next session countdown. Handy for studio owners and anyone juggling a few records.

Your data & privacy

Is my work private?

Yes. Your projects are tied to your account and protected by row-level security. They're visible only to you, unless you invite collaborators (as an editor or viewer) or create a read-only share link. We don't sell your data, run ads, or use cross-site tracking. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

Why am I asked about analytics? What happens if I decline?

You'll see a one-time banner asking whether you'll allow privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics so I can see which features get used. Nothing loads unless you opt in, and declining changes nothing: the app works exactly the same either way. Your choice is remembered in your browser so you're only asked once. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Does the tuner record me through my microphone?

No. The tuner's mic mode listens only while you have it open, and the audio is analyzed on your device in real time to detect pitch. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. Your browser asks permission first, and you can use the reference-tone generator without the mic at all.

Do you back up my data?

Honestly? No. It's just me running this, and I don't keep backups for you, so please keep your own copies. It's quick: use Export JSON (one project, or an all-projects bundle), Export XLSX for a spreadsheet, or Print / PDF for a clean session sheet. A JSON export round-trips: Import JSON restores it completely, and inside the app you can also create named version restore points to roll back to. Exporting regularly is the safest habit.

I broke something. Can I restore an earlier version of my project?

Yes. Create a named version restore point before a big change ("before we re-cut the bridge"), and if things go sideways, restore the project back to it. And since a JSON export imports back in completely, an exported file works as a manual backup you can return to anytime.

How do I keep my account secure? Do you support two-factor authentication?

Yes. Turn on two-factor authentication (a TOTP authenticator app like Aegis, 1Password, or Google Authenticator) in the Account panel. Once enabled it's enforced at the data layer, not just the sign-in screen, so a session that hasn't passed 2FA can't read your data. The same panel shows your active device sessions, and you can sign out any one of them, or everywhere at once.

Can I see where I'm signed in?

Yes. Open Account and look under Active sessions. You'll see each device currently signed in to your account, with its IP address, browser or device type, and last activity. If you spot one you don't recognize, sign it out right there (or use Sign out everywhere). This list is shown only to you and isn't used to track your location. The same Account panel is where you turn on two-factor authentication (see "How do I keep my account secure?").

How do I delete my account?

From Account → Delete account in the app (export a copy first if you want to keep your work). It permanently removes your account and your project data, with one small exception: a signup-consent record (your email, the time, the document version, and IP address) is kept for up to one year as proof you accepted the Terms, then deleted automatically. The Privacy Policy has the details.
